Puerto Rico Getaway
Get the inside scoop on my tropical getaway to San Juan, Puerto Rico in this jam packed travel guide. Come with me on my second time traveling to this beautiful island, each time just gets greater and greater. Whether you’re going for the largest zip lining tour in the world, or maybe you want to make your own Puerto Rican Rum, this guide is for you. I have provided the best places to eat, stay, fun, and shop– let the games begin!
Where to Stay
With this being round two for me traveling to Puerto Rico, once staying in Old San Juan and the other in San Juan, I got to experience the best of both worlds. Since Uber isn’t uber expensive you can go back and forth between cities with no hassle. It really boils down to if you want to be beachfront or in the city mix… I prefer to be at the beachfront. Waking up to the sunrise and the sound of the waves is so calming, especially at the Condado Vanderbilt– the perfect luxury hotel stay for you and the girls, or guys.
*I wouldn’t recommend Condado Vanderbilt for families with children, though it’s not exclusive to adults only, there are no amenities catered toward children.
Where to Eat & Drink
It’s really hard to go wrong when finding good food while traveling through San Juan and its surrounding cities. One thing I found to be true is if you’re staying in a hotel– just don’t eat the food, it’s kind of overpriced and just not as authentic to me as the local restaurants.
Burger Mayo Lab – extremely instagrammable, but food and drinks are still 10/10
El Jibarito – delicious traditional Puerto Rican dishes
Antojitos del Callejon– fell in love with mofongo in this very place
Pannes – the best Puerto Rican coffee and great for breakfast & quick bites
La Casita Blanca – one of the islands most eclectic, and natural restaurant spaces
Bacoa – Puerto Rican cuisine at it’s finest
Jungle Bird – fancy cocktail bar, gourmet food menu & price friendly
Where to Fun
There is so much fun to be had in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the surrounding cities, so much so that you will definitely have to come back more than once, like me, lol. No matter your fun level, you will certainly enjoy your time, and of course there will always be a piña colada involved.
Zip Lining – get a birds eye view with a hint of speed with Toro Verde
Museo De San Juan – learn about the history of Puerto Rico
Jet Skiing – catch the waves 5 min from San Juan, Puerto Rico
Old San Juan Food Tour – discover the food, and flavors of Puerto Rico in one day
Casa Bacardi Puerto Rico – make your own rum to take home in Old San Juan
La Pacita – outdoor nightlife, perfect for bar hopping
Eter Rooftop & Lounge – get a 360 view of San Juan with tapas and cocktails
Red Monkey Tatts – get some island ink
Where to Shop
As a fashionista and overpacker, I didn’t plan on doing too much shopping, simply because my suitcase was already at full capacity. However, I did see items that I just had to have for my family and friends. Here’s where you should shop locally on the island for gifts and souvenirs.
Souvenir 154 – souvenir shop
Pink Tree – women’s clothing boutique
Valija – women’s jewelry and accessories
Ole Puerto Rico – hat shop
Guardaropa – thrift store
