How Kmonae & Kompany Turned Galentine’s Day Into a Wellness Experience

Back in 2023, I started hosting annual Galentine’s Day events for two simple reasons — partially because “I’m just a girl,” and partially because I’m truly a host at heart.

Ever since I was young, I’ve had what people would call a “hostess with the mostest” spirit, always finding ways to turn something small into something meaningful. As I got older, built stronger relationships, and gained access to more resources, my “something out of nothing” mentality only grew.

My very first Galentine’s event ended up being such a success that I definitely felt the pressure to top it every year.

That first experience brought the girls on a curated tour throughout Essex County, New Jersey, where we stopped to:

  • build bouquets
  • explore local art
  • eat cuisine from multiple small businesses

By the end of the night, each guest received a curated gift bag filled with products from even more local brands they could enjoy and share with friends and family.

But even then, I knew exactly what I was doing.

I was creating opportunities for people inside and outside of Newark, NJ to discover what already exists here. Not everyone has the time or curiosity to search for hidden gems, and many small business owners don’t always have the resources to create experiential exposure like this on their own.

This event became my way of bridging that gap.

Since 2023, Kmonae & Kompany has continued producing layered experiential events that serve both the community and the business owner — creating meaningful brand experiences that connect people to places, products, and stories.

This year, the annual Galentine’s event evolved into something new.

For the first time, it went co-ed.

And the result?

Love at First Cycle: A Gal & Guy Wellness Experience — a high-energy fitness event that left everyone sweaty, smiling, and proud they pushed themselves.

Inside Harlem Cycle: A High-Energy Cycling Experience

Guests arrived at Harlem Cycle Newark, a boutique indoor cycling studio known for its empowering fitness classes and community-driven atmosphere.

From the moment attendees walked in, they were greeted by the Harlem Cycle team, immediately creating a welcoming environment.

Founder and owner, Tammeca Rochester was present and incredibly kind, ensuring guests felt comfortable and knew their way around the studio.

Cycle instructor Amanda brought the energy right away. She helped attendees adjust their bikes, find the correct seat height, and prepare for the ride ahead.

Once the class started, the room quickly filled with music, motivation, and encouragement.

Throughout the session, riders were challenged to push past their comfort zones and ride all the way to the finish line.

And they did.

By the end of the class, everyone was dripping with sweat but smiling from ear to ear. The workout wrapped with a deep stretch and, of course, a group photo to celebrate the accomplishment.

After the ride, guests were treated to curated wellness gift bags and refreshments featuring brands that align with intentional living, hydration, and self-care.

We encouraged creators and influencers in attendance to try each product and share their experience with their audiences.

To refuel after the workout, guests enjoyed refreshments from Tropical Smoothie Cafe, known for its fresh smoothies, wraps, and bowls designed to support balanced and healthy lifestyles.
