Black & Fly AF in Brooklyn
Black Girls in Color (BGIC) Fly AF Parties are taking every city by storm, this time it’s the one and only, Brooklyn, NY! My very first BGIC experience was earlier this year at their one year anniversary celebration in Harlem, NY and it was phenomenal. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it did just that. The BGIC Fly AF party was extra special because it was hosted at Lucky’s Cocktail Lounge which is also black + woman owned– this was a true black girl affair! Many of the BGIC rocked their own designs, as well as other black designer brands while posing for Shatimah (photographer) and jamming to Rhonda Rox (DJ)– also black women that you should book for your next function. This event was sponsored by Makers Mark so you know on top of all the natural energy in the room, a time was had!
Black Girls in Color is a Forever Mood
If you haven’t caught the wave yet, you better jump in now, Black Girls in Color is a forever #mood! Some women brought their besties, and some came solo but no one left alone. Meeting new friends and bonding with women for the first time is not uncommon at a BGIC event. Founder of BGIC, Shante said “my goal was for black girls to get together and have a chance to be themselves without a man in their face!” She went on to affirm “we need to take up space”, and that “every color looks great on our skin!” The owner of Lucky’s, Lucky also added, “God could’ve made you anything, and He made you a black girl”, the perfect words to close out the evening!
Join the BGIC Color Wave
There are many ways you can support and/or be a part of the BGIC wave. This movement is about black women expressing themselves through colorful fashions and connecting in spaces that are complementary to them. If you’re a BGIC you can wear the brand on your shoulders or wrist by shopping from BGIC merch via their website. Not to mention, you can plan to attend the next Fly AF event or link up in a city near you! For sponsoring, or collaborating on future events please contact Shante via IG.
