Are You an Extreme Content Hoarder?
I have a question, are you an extreme content hoarder? A content hoarder as defined is a person or individual who has produced an extensive amount of content that remains unshared in their photo album, hard drive or drafts due to fear, laziness, comparison, etc. Do you fit this description? If so, the following is for you, read it, and reap!
Categorize Your Content
Getting your content from camera roll to the social engine of choice can be tough, especially when you’ve been hoarding it. I’m a prime example. I have over 20,000 photos and 5,000 videos on my phone. Personally, I should never complain about having a problem with generating content. So, I did think of a way to post the content that I’ve been hoarding for all these months/years. Categorize it. If you have a ton of fashion content, have a “Fashion Friday” category. If you have a bunch of wellness content, have a “Wellness Wednesday”. By doing this, it does two things, it organizes your content and sections it out while also giving you a set day to deliver the content. Ultimately, you will generate a system to get the content out, and in front of your audience.
Schedule Your Posts
Maybe your content is organized but it still manages to not make it on the gram. For whatever reason; business or lack of social savviness, the job still needs to get done. Scheduling your content can be your saving grace. The automated posting tool has been utilized for some time, yet I’m still amazed how so few use it. Content hoarders, if you haven’t tried this, it’s highly encouraged.
Fierce Tip: Pick a scheduling platform, take an hour from your day, schedule your posts according to your content calendar.
Repeat Content
Repeating content can be very beneficial for the serial content hoarder. Let me break down two ways you can repeat content. The first way is just what it means, post the same exact posts that do well on your feed. Content that does well once, typically will do well a second, or third time. The second way is to repeat the same style of content. This strategy eliminates the time it takes to brainstorm new ideas, just do what works. If you have a GRWM, or cooking video that goes well, just use that as your template to reproduce the content.
Don’t Look at Other Content
Okay, so one big reason you’re hoarding content is because you keep comparing yourself to other creators. You’re taking in too many borrowed ideas instead of focusing on your own. Granted it is hard to avoid all the wonderful creatives on the web but if you’re struggling with setting your own foundation, cutting back is a must. Give yourself a month of just posting without looking at anyone else. Build your creative confidence, fall in love with your uniqueness, and share.
Just Post It
This is easier said than done, if you’re an extreme content hoarder in real life just posting content is difficult to do– but, just post it. Yes, I said it, don’t think about it for too long and just post it. This is where many of us are. We have the content but somehow we get stuck. At this point, you are the only thing in the way of your next post. Cancel out contemplating on whether you should or shouldn’t post at all and literally just post it, and exit the app. Do this for a week straight, then try doing two weeks, and so on and so forth. Trust, posting will eventually feel organic again.
