5 Beginner Tips for Micro Influencers

5 Beginner Tips for Micro Influencers

Influencer to Influencer

I like to think all my life, I’ve been pretty influential– and I’m sure as an Influencer you can relate. But now it’s 2022 (almost 2023) and we have social media. You can now make money from your natural born gift of being who you are, and we are here for all of it! On the flip side, meshing your everyday life with social media can be tricky, especially if you’re really trying to hone in on bringing in the funds– which is why I’m here. I’ve put together this list of 5 Micro Influencer Tips for Beginners, all the things you’ll need whether you’re just getting started or just need a few pointers… let’s get to it!

Figure Out Your Niche

One of the first things I recommend to aspiring influencers is figure out your “niche”. To do that, you have to ask yourself these questions:

  • What categories or industries can you talk about for hours?
  • What do I love to post?
  • What do people come to me for?

When you get those answers, that’s it, that’s your niche, for the most part at least. I’m sure there will be complimentary categories you’ll add to your feed as you grow and develop as an influencer.

Create a Media Kit

5 Beginner Tips for Micro Influencers

A media kit is just a fancy word for your influencer resume. This is what you will share with potential brands you want to work with, or those that want to work with you. If you are starting from scratch with no photos or content, start there first. Once you have established your social presence your media kit should include:

  • Your name & social handle(s)
  • Social insights (follower count, engagement rate, audience demographics, etc.)
  • Current photos that align with your niche
  • A brief bio (who you are, your objective)
  • Whether you’re looking for paid, gifted, or both collaborations
  • Bonus: Suggest collaborations you’d be a good fit for (i.e., “a Fall Outerwear Collection collab would align perfectly with my audience”)
  • Bonus: create a media kit on Canva using a FREE template (you’re welcome)

*Don’t include rates initially, only mention rates on your website or when they agree to move forward with you as an influencer.

Develop a Posting Style

Give people something to remember you by. This is going to take some time, however, while you’re getting started this is the best place to test styles out. Of course, there’s tons of styles you could adopt or create, the main goal is to find something that sticks. This would allow your audience to be able to recognize you in the blink of an eye. My posting style is colorful, vibrant,  edgy, with a hint of city– check it out here

Join an Influencer Platform

Before we get into details, joining an influencer platform is mainly to get started, and to have consistent work. From my experience most influencer platforms don’t cater to the advancement and financial growth of micro influencers. On the contrary, they do help get you started, which is what we’re trying to do. You’ll be able to sort through and apply to be a part of brand campaigns (mostly gifted or extremely low budget) which is great for building your influencer resume. Here are a few platforms I recommend:

Put a Schedule in Place

The thing about being an influencer is you never really stop, it’s ongoing. People are going to always be asking or looking for your next piece of content once you start providing it consistently. Your best friend is going to be on schedule. It doesn’t take a fancy application to do this. It’s as simple as putting a reminder in your phone saying “Monday at 9am post one of your favorite products”. The staple items that you should keep on your schedule are:

  • Sourcing potential brands to work with on Shopify Collab
  • Updating Pinterest & LinkedIn (at least once a week)
  • Reach out to/make friends with other influencers
  • Look for relevant events in your area to attend
  • Post brand partnerships
  • Post something personal/relatable– this is a must, people need to know you’re reel, lol!
